Matthew is a leading trial advocate with more than two decades’ experience in the higher courts of Jersey and England. He has conducted some of the Island’s most significant court cases, both at first instance and on appeal – including in the Privy Council. Before qualifying in Jersey, Matthew practised civil and criminal law for 10 years as a barrister at 7 Bedford Row, London.

- Advising a local financial services provider on AML issues
Matthew has acted for commercial clients in Jersey disputes, including insurers, leading Jersey developers, a London-based retailer and for a local company in an international investment dispute. He has also acted for government ministers, His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, and for foreign governments.
Matthew has prosecuted a series of substantial fraud and international financial criminal cases for successive Attorney Generals and has advised local financial service providers and banks on regulatory matters. He is instructed both directly and through leading London and Jersey law firms who value the forensic insight and courtroom experience which he brings to their client’s cases.
Matthew is an Oxford graduate and an assistant professor at Jersey’s Institute of Law.
